Quite intriguing, the design of the helmet is rather unique. Kinda like a cross between a Spartan helment (halo) and the horned helmet from skyrim.

would love to see a more detailed full body shot of this character

Great Stuff!

Excellent render may friend, the detail and textures are spot on, and the GI rendering of what i suspect is either mental ray or V-Ray is brilliant. Really the only critique i have about this is that the lamp in the corner that is emitting light really doesn't need to be there, the room is perfectly lit by the sunlight.
Apart from that i think you hang that blue picture in the back wall upside down :p

Nice sculpture

but 3d art it is not. 3d art (on newgrounds anyway) consists of digital imagery that has been entirely made on the computer using software such as 3ds max. Maya. Zbrush and others

when uploading images onto newgrounds note the guide line that clearly states:

"No photographs! We recognize photography as an artistic endeavor, but we have chosen to focus on hand-made works."

(the proof that this is a photograph is right in the picture it's self... the reflection in the top part clearly shows the flash of the camera)

ok then

Alright this isn't the best piece of 3d i have ever seen. but im not going to say it's bad nonetheless.. art is what you make of it.
but i will say that this wold have been better if you were using a more refined mesh. say a beveled cube. and as far as the lighting goes. GI lighting and soft ray traced shadows would have given even a piece like this much more definition and depth.
Also perhaps giving the objects a custom material. not the standard gray materiel...
actually on that note maybe if you had the center cube actually emitting GI lights through a material channel?
anyways hope you found this usefull

All fair criticisms. Thank you.

great use of the udk

i think this is a terrific example of the level of quality that the udk can bring.
I think the powerful specular highlights and subtle reflections really work for the piece as a whole.

the model it's self is quite professionally made and i can see it as an actual game model. Love to see it animated and walking around

great work!

good stuff

veu has to be one if my favorite programmes, even if it does like crashing more then working. who knew doing something as complex as environments could be so easy with this application.
good pic

3D!

I love seeing all the 3d work on Newgrounds.
it's a good concept for it aswell, i know it's far easier to make a 3d scene if you have a mental picture and back story to guide you.

now here comes the critique:
You may have over done it with the bump mapping a little bit, unless it's how you wanted it.
The visible seems in the textures of the cave wall sorta breaks the illusion your looking into.
The tree models are a bit too low poly to fit in correctly with the rest of the scene.
And the lighting is perhaps too harsh, if the blue parts of it were meant to glow they would be emitting there own light aswell as the back ground lighting.

all in all, it's still far better then anything i could to when i first started.
keep on practicing and you'll go far with it!
also since your using mental ray, try to learn how to use global illumination settings. for just general brilliance. you'll see what i mean when you play with them.

chers!

Thanks, I can tone down the bump mapping I was considering trying some more different version of the cave wall and rocks. This should fix the seem problems in the cave wall as well. As for the trees thats exactly what my sister had said too, and ican turn down the lights I was just afraid of the scene being to dark.

Also I have a globe set up you just can't see it because it is outside of the cave.

Anyways, thanks so much for the critque you are spot on with it ^_^ !!! I will go back and polish up the scene ^_^ !!!!!

Thanks again, I value your honesty !!!

Dragon filled goodness

really nice work here. great detail in the bones!
that's the sort of model that is easy to rig and animate!

Insert generic comment here

I quite like the fire effect in the background, a little too much photoshop filtering for my tastes though, but i think art is what the artist thinks, not what the rest of the world does, if your happy with it then it's perfect!
nice work
by the way, it's nice to see more people using 3ds max!

AWESOME

that show would have been so much better if this was the actual character!

Stephen Jeal's the name. Been doing 3d modeling/animation for 7 years. 2d art for 3 years. I like steaks and heavy metal. That's about it
